Over the years, A More Excellent Way Health Improvement Organization in Vallejo, CA has held various events that help educate families about several health topics, including nutrition and breastfeeding. We also offer parent support and empowerment through virtual meetings.

Additionally, we conduct baby showers in an effort to address health disparities in perinatal outcomes of African-American women and infants. Feel free to sign up for any of our events. You may also volunteer and donate!

14th ANNUAL CONTRA COSTA COUNTY AFRICAN AMERICAN
FREE COMMUNITY BABY SHOWER

A More Excellent Way Health Improvement Organization (MEW) and community partners in Contra Costa are celebrating their 14th year of supporting the health of new families through our Community Baby Shower Program. We are inviting pregnant and early postpartum families to register and attend.

A More Excellent Way Health Organization and community partners are inviting African-American pregnant & breastfeeding women and expectant fathers of African descent to the Virtual and Drive-Thru “More Excellent Way Community Baby Shower” on Saturday, August 29th from 10 – 2 pm. The Zoom celebration is from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by the in person Health Fair at The Landing Place Church, 620 E. Tregallas Road, Antioch, CA during National Black Breastfeeding Week. It’s a huge celebration of life!

This event is free of charge and will include Zoom health and education workshops conducted by doctors, nurses, lactation consultants and mental health professionals. This virtual shower will include fun, culturally tailored games, where families can win car seats, strollers, bassinets and more!

Following the zoom celebration is the walk-thru health and resource fair that will include incentives and fresh and cooked free food. The baby shower will assist couples in accessing prenatal and other health and social services and essential supplies. We have special attractions for mothers, partners, siblings and a Grandmother’s Tea! It’s a family affair!

Why? Black babies die at twice the rate of other babies before they reach their first birthday. African-American women die at 3 times the rate of any other race from preventable labor and delivery complications. Improving the pregnancy and birth outcomes of African American women continues to be a goal of A More Excellent Way Health, our partners and collaborating agencies. We provide assistance to Bay Area families by promoting the importance of early and culturally humble prenatal care, education and support to improve Black families’ pregnancy outcomes.

“A More Excellent Way Health Community Baby shower” will be held free of charge Saturday, August 29th, 2026. The Zoom celebration is from 10:00 to 12 pm followed by the Shower In Person Health Fair from 12 until 2 pm at The Landing Place Church, 620 E. Tregallas Road, Antioch, CA.
